About The Artist:
Born in 1952, award winning Chinese brush painter, Jo-An Frances (Thomas) not only creates beautiful artwork but also teaches this ancient art form at the Morean Art Center in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. Her classes and workshops, held monthly, offer an opportunity for others to learn and appreciate the intricate beauty of Chinese brush painting.
In 1985, Jo-An traveled to Hong Kong, China, and Japan, where she became captivated by Oriental art. The following year, Frances resumed her art career at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, Mass. There, under the guidance of Instructor Ellee Avakian, she found her calling in Oriental Brush painting.
Over the past forty years, Frances has continued her study of Asian Brush painting with celebrated artists such as Master Diana Kan, Master Zhuo HeJun, Master Wenda Gu, Henry Wo Yue-Kee, Ning Yeh, Ph.D., and most recently with Master Sumi-e painter Joan Lok and Ning Yeh's mentee, Mayee Futterman.
