This exquisite listing showcases a stunning Mt. Washington Crown Milano Art Glass cracker jar or biscuit barrel in the "Thistle" pattern. The silver plated collar, adorned with an intricately embossed decorative design, is seamlessly attached to the body of the jar. The handle, featuring a beautifully ornate design unique to Mt. Washington, moves smoothly on well-crafted hinges. The lid is adorned with a large, raised crab motif and a branch-like finial handle. It bears the marking "M. W. 4416". The jar's opaque opal glass body is a signature of Mt. Washington and the rare Crown Milano line. Its exquisite thistle bloom design in rich reddish-brown tones, accented by delicate green foliage, rests upon a luxurious matte background of soft beige-gold and cream.
Measures 6 1/2" high (to top of lid) and 8" high (to the top of the handle) and has a 7" round body.
The glass body of this cracker jar is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and the decoration reflects no wear. The silver plate lid and collar are in good condition with no damage or repairs although they do reflect normal wear and have unpolished aged patina. Background: Crown Milano glass was originally called "Albertine" with the patent for this glass being issued in 1893. The Albertine name was later changed in the Mt. Washington factory records to Crown Milano. Early examples of this glass had a paper label with some of the later pieces marked with the "C M" Crown trademark. Crown Milano glass is scarce and is prized within prominent Art Glass collections. This stunning cracker jar is a fabulous example of this RARE and collectible Art Glass.
