This etching by renowned American artist Ernest Haskell (1876-1925) captures the picturesque shores of Maine, where he and his first wife purchased a charming farmhouse in 1906. From California to Florida to Maine, Haskell found inspiration in various locations, but it was in Europe where he met Whistler that he discovered his passion for etching.
His unique style was heavily influenced by the masters Rembrandt, Da Vinci, and Durer. Following his untimely death in a car accident in his beloved Phippsburg, Maine, numerous retrospectives have been held to honor his exceptional body of work. In fact, Haskell's masterpieces were featured alongside other prominent artists in the celebrated "Three Centuries of American Art" exhibition at the prestigious MOMA in New York City in 1938.
